Chapter 23 - Critique

Portent

“What are friends for?” Thesis: self-referential closed causal loops in spacetime built with spacelike causes, that self-collapse in the one and only basis in which the loop is indeterminate, deftly avoiding temporal paradox, while acting as nature’s censor mechanism, to prevent causality paradoxes with the side effect of allowing superluminal signaling.

If true, this would solve the quantum measurement problem. Technical applications would be staggering.

Significance

There is now a checklist of objectives upon which a theory must be constructed. Spacelike intervals that can be quantum coupled into a closed loop in spacetime such that in all but one basis the loop is paradoxical.

Or maybe some other self-reference, or consistency criteria, will reveal itself. The metaphor of a quest may be all too appropriate. This is not a puzzle - puzzles have guaranteed solutions. This is a problem, nay a conundrum - there is no warranty on solvability. A fool’s errand, a wild goose chase, a lost cause? Or a tantalizing insight that compels investigation to the bitter end?

There is only one way to find out…
